Hey Everyone,
Just thought I'd share with you what is going on for the summer. As far as Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do are concerned, New Edge Martial Arts has already hosted an in-house sparring tournament for youth students. The sparring tournament was held last Saturday, July 17th. 24 students competed, which is a great turnout for the summer. It was a very fun experience, and a great way for them to stay focused for when the bigger competitions arrive in the fall season.
On Saturday, August 14th there will be an in-house forms tournament for students aged 5-14- each being broken up into respective divisions, of course. Home events are always fun to host. :)
Last Monday five adult students participated in the 2nd Hap Ki Do test ever at New Edge Martial Arts. It was a near-flawless performance on their part- amazing to witness. Several other adults who could not make that date due to personal circumstances will be testing soon at a makeup.
Speaking of Hap Ki Do, the 8th Triennial World Hap Ki Do Championship will be taking place in early August in Battle Creek, MI. I am considering going to either witness or POSSIBLE participate... as this is the first time the event has not been in South Korea. Sweet! :)
Lastly- does anyone know where one could take lessons in the Korean language in the Detroit area?

Check Korean churches in Detroit. In Kalamazoo there has been pretty much only one way to learn Korean and that has been through the Hosana church. Just run a google search for Korean Churches in Detroit, I did that and got about nine hits.

I'm comming home to Michigan in August, between the 15th and the 27th. I want to organize a sword seminar at G.M.C.'s location sometime during my stay there.
If you are interested in me comming out to Gross Pointe for a sword seminar I might be able to arrange something.
I'll be comming home to do a research mission at W.M.U. I'm thinking of getting a degree in dietetics and physical education. I think by September or October I'll be a 1st dan in Kumdo. The 2-3 year plan would be to get those degrees and open a dojang that can offer diet counseling.
I'll also be able to offer Kumdo, which isn't as high impact as Taekwondo or Hapkido, but still can be a pretty good workout.
If you're interested I can organize a lesson plan, give you some advance information and then drive out there for a seminar. (You'd have to run a sign up sheet and make sure that everyone has a wooden sword.)
Also do you know where the "Moosejaw," store is? The principal of my school wants me to bring back a back pack for him. Moosejaw is one of the only places in Michigan where I was able to find the brand he wanted. The website for Moosejaw said that there was a shop somewhere out there.

Sorry that it took awhile to respond. Master Teresa is in the office with me right now. Anyways, I do not think it would work for a kumdo seminar at my school- since the students wouldn't care to purchase a sword for that. However, I am hoping to go to Kalamazoo to see you and maybe participate in your seminar over there.
Yes, I do know where the Moosejaw store is, by the way. It is a few miles or so away from my school.
